Paul Cotton, ,
FIREBIRD CD, Special 2-disk set, Released on April 12, 2000, FIREBIRD has enjoyed very positive reviews and
fan response. It was a recording made on a limited budget. That meant a
limited time with which to mix the eleven tracks. With the improvement in
technology (aka Pro Tools) and the invention of other technologies (5.1
surround sound), Futuredge’s John Thaler embarked on a complete remix of
Firebird for stereo and for 5.1.
The endeavor began at Porcupine Studios in Chandler, Arizona on May 9, 2006
and finished on August 23, 2006. For some, the recording may not sound
markedly different from the original. But audiophiles will immediately
notice the difference in sonic separation and dynamic range. The clarity of
each instrument and each vocal track is far superior to the original, as are
the vocal harmonies. A few, and only a few, additional tracks have been
added. Also, endings have been lengthened and instruments included that
never made the final cut. However, the integrity of the original recording
has been maintained throughout.
This package contains two discs. The first is a new stereo mix. The second
is DVD with a stereo mix and a 5.1 surround sound mix. In addition to the
obvious, the mixes are not the same. Some differences are subtle; some are
not. We have tried to make a record for people to listen to. So pull up a
chair and your favorite beverage as you go along for the ride. We hope you
enjoy the journey.
